A mock-up of a Space Shuttle orbiter designed to transport astronauts and cargo to and from the International Space Station circling our planet was on display outdoors at the Kennedy Space Center near Cape Canaveral in Florida, USA, when this photograph was taken in 1976. The Ambassador was a full-size replica of six rocket-boosted shuttles that made 135 flights while being operated by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from 1981 to 2011. Nowadays the last of those retired space shuttles to fly, the Atlantis, is on exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center.
