John Anthony Burgess Wilson, who published under the name Anthony Burgess, was an English writer and composer. Burgess was primarily a comic writer, but his dystopian satire A Clockwork Orange remains his best-known novel. A blue plaque is an outdoor sign that is placed on a building to commemorate an important historical event or person. In Manchester, the initiative is managed by the Manchester Art Gallery and there are currently 228 blue plaques installed in the Greater Manchester area, according to the Open Plaques initiative.
