Late 1950s, historical picture showing some of the temporary single-story prefab huts of the Poplar Technical College in East London, England, UK, previously known as the School of Engineering and Navigation. Born in nearby Leytonstone, the famous film director, Alfred Hitchcock attended the maritime school, whose main building in Poplar High St had been damaged during WW2, as had the whole of East End of London, which had been heavily bombed during the Blitz. Cranes can be seen in the distance beside the River Thames.
