[ 1930s Japan - Emperor Jimmu and the Rising Sun ] — Early 20th century print of a bearded Emperor Jimmu (Jinmu-tenno), the mythical founder of Japan. He is carrying a long bow and is accompanied by a wild bird. In the traditional lists of Japanese emperors, Jimmu is always listed as Japan's first emperor. From Yamato Zakura (國畫史帖大和桜), a jingoistic history textbook for elementary students with prints based on Ukiyo-e masterpieces from the late 19th century, published in 1935 (Showa 10). 20th century vintage print.
