This huge and truly amazing tree was planted in the New Forest just 140 years ago but already thought to be the biggest in the forest The latin name for Giant Redwood is Sequoiadendron giganteum also known as the Giant sequoia or Wellingtonia If allowed they can grow to become the biggest trees in the world living for 3000 years The largest tree in America is 25 metres round which would take 15 people to join hands The New Forest is maintained by the Forestry Commission This photo was taken in Autumn 2004 |
