Its remarkably simple and spacious interior is contained within a building of relatively modest scale. The whole is composed of long, low-lying planes set in a variety of heights and levels. Th einterior is distinguished by the unfaced brick bearing walls, built-in benches and shelving, and modular and moveable Wright- designed furnishings. The sculptural designs of the simple ply furniture reiterate Wright’s use of panelling as interior facing. Living spaces were conceived for both comfort and flexibility, and the patron, Loren Pope, helped in assembling the interior. The house was given to the United States National Trust for Historic Preservation by its subsequent owner, Mrs Robert Leighey in 1963, and has since been carefully disassembled and relocated to the Woodlawn Plantation where it was reconstructed. |
