Description MEXICO Veracruz State in Papantla village Nahua and Totonac ritual called the Voladores meaning flying men Five men climb to the top of a one hundred feet pole and one of them stay on top playing drum and flute while the others jump down to the ground attached by ropes flying like birds which is why they are called Voladores as volar means fly in Spanish This very religious ceremony was forbidden by the Spaniards afraid of its significance The Voladores circle the pole 13 times as 13 X 4 makes 52 which symbolizes the cycles of the sun
