Description
|
Turning north off the A148 to Field Dalling and Langham, the road passes first through the pretty village of Bale. All Saints' Church is on the right, behind a small green with a grove of Ilex trees, the Evergreen or Holm Oak (Quercus ilex), now under the care of the National Trust. These are the historic Bale Oaks. One such oak was 36 feet in circumference and thought to be one thousand years old when it was removed in 1860. The chancel of All Saints' is 13th century. But it is the stained glass that provides the most interest. In the south window there is a depiction of two apostles from the 14th century. Much of the other glass is 15th century, from the Norwich School. |
