Description
|
Darwin's Government House was originally built in 1870 and is situated on a plateau overlooking Port Darwin. Extensive renovations were conducted in 1878-79 by Government Secretary and architect, John George Knight, later to become the Government Resident in 1890. The buildings remain the same today. The grounds cover an area of 1.4 hectares. Government House was declared a Place of Heritage in 1996 under the Northern Territories Heritage Conservation Act. |
