Description This ceremony survived the USSR by almost two years On 6 October 1993 Post 1 the honor guard that had maintained a 24 hour vigil over Lenin since his death was abolished. Plans to bury Lenin have surfaced from time to time but the body is still cared for and the mausoleum normally open to visitors. Lenin has lain in Red Square since his death in 1924. E 00001 01
