SEM of an adult deer louse fly (Lipoptena depressa), mag. 7x (at 24 x 36 mm). The deer louse fly, or deer ked, is a biting fly that feeds on deer in western North America. Louse flies (family Hippoboscidae) are bloodsucking ectoparasites of birds and mammals with specialized claws that allow them to cling to the hair or feathers of their host. |
