Tourist entrance at Fort Larned National Historic Site Kansas
Description From 1821 to 1880, soldiers from Fort Larned in Kansas provided escort protection for wagon trains and mail stages against the threat of American Indians along the Santa Fe Trail. Later on it served as a distribution point for paying annuities to the Indians, and was terminated as a military post when the tribes were moved to new reservations in Indian Territory.
