Hampton Court 2005 Daryl Gannon Landscape Design and Build No Room for Squares Designer: Daryl Gannon Contractor: Daryl Gannon A jazz-inspired garden influenced by ‘Blue Note’ record sleeves, and includes elements of 60’s retro chic, new innovative materials and abstract features. The central features of the garden are circles and ellipses working in harmony, leaving no room for squares in the main area. However, the use of squares in the form of topiary and Perspex cubes give an abstract twist to the design. Hard landscape materials include the use of a product called Micro-Top - a paper-thin concrete medium. The planting style has an emphasis on texture and form with a strong colour theme that runs throughout. The plants highlight the tones of the materials used and compliment the features of the design. Key plants include Buxus sempervirens (topiary forms), Carpinus betulus, grasses such as Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’ and exotic plants such as Myrsine africana, Ricinus communis ‘Impala’ and Holboellia coriacea. |
