  1. Do I have any choice in this?

Yes, you can choose the territories in which you want to sell and exclude any of those in which you have exclusive agreements. We would stress that you will get greater value out of your relationship with us if you sign up for more territories as you'll gain more visibility.

  2. How much does it cost to be involved?

There are no upfront costs to participate in this scheme and the commission applies only to third party sales made on Alamy's behalf. If we make a direct sale in the countries concerned, we pay you commission based on your current contract. While signing up for the third-party distribution model gives you a greater possibility of making broader sales, this is balanced by a slightly lower commission than you would receive than from a direct Alamy sale. The commission structure for sales through third parties is as follows:

    • Alamy commission 15%
    • Distributor commission 40%
    • Contributor commission 45%

This is considerably higher than the industry standard of between 35% and 20% in similar schemes offered by Alamy's competitors.

  3. Why do Alamy get a share?

We provide websites, technical support, sales support, and marketing assistance to our distributors in addition to our normal operating expenses. This option is still the least expensive method of gaining increased market share quickly in these territories for you.

  4. I am on a low commission structure - why don't you charge me less?

We are treating this as a separate business opportunity for you. While this is by far the least expensive route to market for Alamy in these territories and offers you the best return, we do still have to invest money in creating this infrastructure.

  5. What are the territories?

Please visit the full list of our current distribution partners.

  6. Why are we being given a list of more territories than these?

We intend to add additional distributors and wanted to save you time by asking the questions about territorial restrictions now.

  7. Why isn't Alamy able to sell direct into these territories via the web?

Alamy achieves good sales worldwide via the web. However, there is no substitute for local knowledge and contact, which is what these third parties provide.

  8. Who are these third parties?

They have been specially selected for their proven ability to sell into this marketplace. Their businesses are also not directly competitive to our own. We will therefore increase your reach without having to make - and pass-on to our contributors - the usual large investment associated with this.

  9. How will they represent my content?

In terms of how your content will look to their customers, Alamy provides them with technology tools to ensure that there are no changes in the way that this is represented. In marketing terms, we will work with them to ensure branding remains consistent and to get you the best return.

  10. What about rights management?

Rights management is controlled, as the third parties are required to input sales into our system and are contractually bound to Alamy's working practices.

  11. How long do I have to make my images available to this programme?

The current sign up period is until 31st March 2009. This timeframe is to give our Distributors a base of images they can draw on.

  12. What are you doing to support direct sales in USA and Canada?

We have a strong direct solution for these territories which involves freephone numbers and dedicated round the clock support.

  13. By opting in and selecting territories am I blocking or allowing sales into these territories on the main Alamy web site?

By opting into the scheme and selecting your territories, you are only consenting to Alamy distributors selling your images in your preferred territories. Any Licence restrictions for your images on Alamy must still be applied by you through the Alamy web site.

  14. Can I say yes please, but just to some of my images?

No, your decisions will apply to all of your images.
