This image is exclusive to Alamy The Jolly Fisherman design originates from a holiday advertisement poster drawn by John Hassall in 1908 that became so popular that the town adopted the illustration and its slogan “Skegness is so bracing”. It was commissioned by the Great Northern Railway Company and Hassall received twelve guineas. Hassall didn’t visit Skegness until 1936 when he was presented with the “the freedom of the foreshore”.
