‘Lifejacket Graveyard’ display by refugees and charities in Parliament Square as world leaders meet at United Nations Migration Summit in New York. The carefully laid out 2500 lifejackets, many made by people smugglers from cheap non-bouyant materials, were worn by both adult and child refugees who experienced the deadly stretch of sea from Turkey to the Greek island of Chios. Each lifejacket it said to represent three deaths. It is estimated that between January 2015 and August 2016, 6940 people have lost their lives in a desperate bid to make the crossing.
