Ashbourne, UK. 13th February 2018. Ye Olde & Ancient Medieval hugball game is the forerunner to football. It's played between two teams, the Up'Ards & Down'Ards separated by the Henmore Brook river. The goals are 3 miles apart at Sturston Mill & Clifton Mill. Charles Cotton's poem Burlesque upon the Great Frost, dating from 1683, mentions this game at Ashbourne. He was the cousin of Aston Cockayne Baronet of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Credit: Doug Blane/Alamy Live News
