Alamy are speeding up their website by placing copies of the image catalogue, currently numbering in excess of 3.8 million, in locations across the USA. Starting in New York City in December, they will extend this to other major cities in 2006.
The company currently stores all images in London, but predict that moving images to NYC will halve the average time it takes a customer in the USA to load a page of search results. They anticipate further speed improvements as the number of locations increase.
