Laughing Palaung woman in tribal costume Nyaung Gone village nr Kalaw Shan State Burma Kalaw is situated 70km west of Taunggyi the capital of Shan State and about 50km from the Pindaya caves The town sits high on the western edge of the Shan Plateau and was a popular hill station in British colonial times At an elevation of 1320 metres Kalaw maintains a pleasant climate and is a good base for hiking and trekking amid pines bamboo groves and rugged mountain scenery to Pa O and Padaung hilltribe communities |
