Our Green Team was formed in 2007 to challenge all company habits, procedures and priorities in a bid to improve Alamy’s environmental performance. We hold regular meetings and encourage suggestions from employees on ways of saving energy and making better use of raw materials.
Activities so far:
- We use recycling bins for plastic, paper, glass and cans.
- We introduced a subsidised “buy a bike” scheme and now 12% of our UK staff regularly cycle into work.
- Made an allotment available to staff (within walking distance of the office) to promote organic gardening and consumption of local produce.
- We invested in new printers and photocopiers to allow double-sided printing and introduced centralised printing to encourage employees to use less paper.
- Measuring technology has been installed to allow us to record our energy consumption every half hour.
- We have video conferencing facilities in our offices in the UK, India and the US to reduce as much as possible the need for travel.
- We have introduced low energy lighting throughout the office replacing all 54W strip lights with 28W bulbs.
- We reviewed our IT infrastructure with the twin aims of making it more resilient and reducing our electricity consumption.
