We have been carrying out some tests recently in an effort to eliminate image processing errors, which occasionally occur when we process both offline and online image submissions.
At present we try and re-process any files with errors up to a maximum of 10 times to eliminate any issues with our end of the processing.
If within that time period we successfully re-process the image(s) then the whole media proceeds to the QC queue. If we are not successful then those images are flagged as processing errors and the remainder of the media proceed to the QC queue.
Please note that image processing errors do not in anyway contribute to the QC result. Media that contain processing errors or undersized files will become a “Partial Fail” if the remaining images meet the QC criteria.
Findings from our testing have shown that a large majority of the image processing errors are caused by the Jpeg format. Most of these can be eradicated when Jpeg files are saved as “Baseline Standard”, rather than "Progressive" or "Baseline Optimised".
It is worth noting that last month processing errors only accounted for 0.44% of the total images uploaded.
If you are one of the unlucky few in this percentage we’d like to recommend that you incorporate this step into your workflow (if you are not doing so already) and ensure you save your Jpeg files as Baseline Standard before uploading them to Alamy.
