Young Photographers Alliance (YPA) is a global educational foundation that supports aspiring photographers. In their own words their mission is, "to inspire and empower the next generation of image-makers by offering the real-world knowledge, insight, experience and contacts they need to build sustainable careers as photography professionals."
Founded in 2009 by leading photography industry figures Jerry Tavin and Deborah Free, the organisation runs mentoring programmes for photographers both in the UK and the US. They also organise internships and networking opportunities and have recently announced their second round of scholarships.
Alamy is very proud to have been the first organisation to pledge support for YPA with an Alamy scholarship in 2009 and we've followed that up with another scholarship this year.
To learn more about YPA take a look at their website.
At a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult for photographers to forge a career path, we welcome YPA's drive and enthusiasm for developing and supporting new talent. Without such initiatives major photographic talent runs the risk of going unnoticed and undiscovered.
YPA survives on membership fees, charitable donations and sponsorship alone.
We are giving Alamy contributors the opportunity to help the photographers of the future by making a donation from their Alamy sales revenue.
If you'd like to make a donation, however small, it will be gratefully received by YPA . Simply email Member Services with 'YPA donation' in the subject line of your email. Please include in the email the email address of your Alamy account and the amount you'd like to donate.
You can donate any amount from your current balance (both cleared and uncleared funds) and Alamy will deduct it from your account and send it on to YPA.
Alternatively if you'd like to join YPA as a member, you can do that through their website.
We'd like to give YPA a real boost before the end of the year so we are making the facility to donate through Alamy available until the end of December 2010.
We hope you'll join us in supporting this very worthwhile cause.
