© beyondAlamy’s sales staff and international distributors are increasingly being asked by clients to provide additional information for images, where this has not been supplied by the contributor. Although we endeavour to contact the contributor for this information, we’ve lost sales in recent months as we’ve not heard back in time to meet clients’ deadlines.
The pieces of information most frequently asked for are:
The types of client requesting this information vary widely and include both editorial and commercial clients. Most frequently it is academic book publishers who need this information, many of whom will not buy images unless the date is known. Similarly, for corporate clients, the date an image was taken can be the factor that determines whether an image will be selected.
In Manage Images, there are annotation fields for both Location and Date taken, which whilst not mandatory, should be completed where possible. You can just supply the year if you don’t know the exact date an image was taken, and for location the more specific the location details, the better. Remember that although the location field is searchable, it only carries a low weighting on our search engine.
In the Description field, which is not searchable, you can provide any other information which you think could be of interest to a potential buyer.
This additional image information is particularly important for travel and editorial shots.
