File size preferences

We have released a new feature for customers which allows them to set file size preferences. The range of file sizes reflects the range of image sizes we have on Alamy. Our submission criteria has developed over the years and we do have some very small files on the site (less than 5MB) from the very earliest days of Alamy.

We anticipate only a few customers will use this feature but it is more relevant now that we are taking images in through our new Archives route. This feature will enable customers to strip out images that will be too small for their needs.

Introducing this feature does not mean a change to our submission guidelines. We still recommend that digital files are not interpolated beyond 55MB. We gave this advice since many contributors were failing QC because they had interpolated their images too much, therefore introducing interpolation artefacts. We do have some contributors who supply medium and large format scans which are typically larger in size. We have given a 70MB option to cover these images which may very occasionally be required by commercial customers who need a very large file size.

We are embarrassed to report that when the project went live the 48MB option was displayed as 58MB, this typo will be amended and rolled into the work that is going on today. Please accept our sincere apologies for the confusion this caused.
