Archive images

In the past we were disappointed to have to turn away some attractive collections which did not meet with our QC requirements. However, we recognise that our strength in the editorial market means that for some images, the subject matter may be of more importance to our clients than the technical quality. We have already recruited a few hand-picked collections that fall into this category, including press, reportage, historical archives and specialist niche collections. These images may have imperfections, or may be smaller than our standard 48MB requirements and will be indicated to our customers as "Archive images". Customers will have the option to exclude these images from their searches if they wish to do so.

Initially, we are allowing some agencies to submit some older images from their archives. We anticipate rolling this submissions route out to a wider group of agencies and individual photographers in the future. We are particularly interested in large historical collections and reportage/press archives.

If you have at least 5000 'Archive' images available to submit as a new collection (not already online) please email Member Services with the subject line "Potential Archive contributor". We will then consider you for a possible future roll-out.

We anticipate the images will principally be of interest to our secondary editorial clients and as such they will not be uploaded to our site any more quickly than standard submissions.

We would like to emphasize that this Archive submissions route is not designed to take small submissions for real-time upload from reportage/press/news photographers, but it is a step towards enabling us to do so in the future.

Quality Control criteria for normal submissions to Alamy remain unchanged.
