After a combination of complaints from customers and embarrassing “example searches” during Alamy presentations, we thought it would be best to remind you all of our policy on glamour images.

So here it is: No glamour please.

Firstly let me just quickly say the following in order to help clear up any confusion:

  • We are aware that due to our policy on not checking every image, it's inevitable that glamour images get onto the system.
  • Yes it is impossible for us to police the collection 100%.
  • We know that what exactly constitutes glamour can be subjective, and different cultures have different levels of tolerance.
  • As a result of the above, please accept that the decision on what and what isn’t acceptable has to rest with us.

So what do we mean when we say “glamour” ? – basically we are referring to tasteless images that serve no purpose outside that of page 3 or top shelf magazines. We are happy to continue to accept nude images that represent health, beauty, lifestyle or have genuine artistic merit.

A reminder – “glamour” is a Quality Control rejection reason and should we spot it within any of your future submissions, it may cause all your work awaiting QC at that time to fail.

Over the coming weeks we will be searching through the collection and removing glamour images that we deem to be un-acceptable and potentially offensive. We hope you can appreciate that we didn’t want to display example images in this blog post. If any of your images are to be removed you will be notified by email in advance of the deletion. Although we will be doing an active sweep through in the near future, we will also be removing any images that fall into this category, should they come to our attention.

So what happens if we find anything like that as we go about the site? Should we report it? How about a bouncy ... er sorry I mean a bounty?

But seriously, I think you should set up a dedicate mailbox for us to report this stuff. None of us want you to look foolish when you're demonstrating to our customers.

For examples on the site, do a search on 'glamour nude'.

If you can't already see it in the pics, take a look at the titles - EROTIC SEXY EXCITING SENSUAL PROVOCATIVE is a bit of a giveaway!

There are also (to me) perfectly acceptable examples of full nudity. Again the title is the giveaway.

Oh - and 'glamour' does not necessarily mean nude. eg Studio swimsuit shots, lingerie etc are often clearly glamour.

One test for me is to ask yourself, is there any point to the shot other than to boost the photographer's ego or excite the viewer?
