Bigger is better...

We are pleased to announce that as from today we will be displaying larger thumbnails on the search results.

There is a possibility that this will change the relationship between views and clicks in the system. Any such changes will be taken into account for future calculations of AlamyRank and AlamyMeasures if necessary.

We've made them bigger because we think they look better and we hope our customers agree with us!

Hmm - looks great on Internet Explorer 7, but terrible on Firefox 2. (Both Windows XP).

There is no margin between adjacent landscape format images, and the thumbnails seem to float out of their rows...

A step forward though - this will hopefully mean images can be judged on their merit, rather than just on making a good thumbnail.Hm7!9A

seems to be a continuation of a general issue with Alamy and Firefox. Page loads are slow and incomplete, while Internet Explorer is ok.

Otherwise I love the new bigger thumbs

looks fine in Firefox on MAC. Great improvement!

  5. 10 December 2007 at 16:05 Michael Kolvenbach

still shows only 102 thumbs though, not 120, when chosen in results per page.

Thanks for letting us know. This issue has now been resolved.

  7. 10 December 2007 at 16:12 Mark

Fast James has fixed it :-)

Looking good now on 4 different PCs and a laptop all running firefox.

I really like the larger thumnails

Will larger thumbnails result in fewer zooms.....I wonder?

I like it big.....it would be good to have the option of sizing them.....very readable though.

I still only get 102 thumbs when I select 120 results. Firefox on MAC.

Looking nice, but surely AlamyRank calculation must be revised. There is almost no need to click on the thumbnails now.

Works fine now on laptop running Windows XP Firefox.

Thumbnails are good, more detail visible

Works fine for me on Mac OSX 10.3.9 and firefox 2.0.0.11. Great improvement!

I have a link from my website to my images on Alamy and the thumbnails showing after clicking the link are still the small size.

Do I need fresh code to paste into my web page?

I am getting very odd results in Alamy measures now. ie it shows 5 zooms but when I click on 5 it comes up with 11 images on the blue background. Similar differences today with different images. Which is correct?

  18. 11 December 2007 at 23:16 Clive rowley

WOW! What a difference! The new thumbnails look wonderful on both Firefox and IE (Vista)and give much better representations of the zoomed images.

I do like a new surprise each week. Keep up the good work!

looks good on my 20 inch high res screen using Safari browser on a Mac. looks even better on my wife's Mac which has a 19 inch screen with lower resolution and hence everything looks quite a bit bigger. on the 19 screen I'm not sure I would often bother with a zoom

    Spot On...

I was just thinking it was time Alamy had a face lift... As other stock sites have a "higher quality" feel... The bigger Thumbs really helps...

  21. 12 December 2007 at 22:11 Matthew Noble

Good news, this should mean the mre subtle images which may not show well at thumbnail size should do a little better.

  22. 13 December 2007 at 14:39 Kevin Bailey

One big downside to the larger images.

As a buyer one of he things that has MOST impressed me about Alamy is the speed that one can peruse searches, utterly important for that matter. It's always been blazingly fast, the fastest as far as I can tell from all other stock sites. I'm noticing a substantial decrease in speed as the page searches to load the images since this revise. This is a huge negative, I'd much rather have smaller thumbnails for the sake of speed. I dare say most "buyers" would say this. The drudgery of wading through thousands of images to find the right one is tedious.

I use the newest variant of Safari. I have not done many searches since this revise so hopefully it's an anomaly, a connection issue or whatever. Otherwise I would ask you reconsider this "improvement".

As a contributor, I'm delighted to see my images bigger, but the buyer trumps as far as I'm concerned. Speed is a KEY differentiator to the Alamy site, don't forsake it.

This is a positive move and well welcomed
    I guess from prospective clients.

My concern is that I think you should now have a standard watermark across images to protect any infringement from not so honest clients, these can be easily lifted and used editorially.

I am still confused by Alamy's way of paying its contributors. My Blance of account has been well over the $ 250.- payment mark for the last 4 month. Every time I inquire about when the money will be tranfered into my account, I am told that some credit has not been cleared. How long will I have to wait to get paid? Any help from anyone out there would be of help to me. If Alamy make a sale for you, we should be paid within a month time.
