Many thanks to all of our contributing photographers and photo agencies for helping us reach this exciting milestone. To mark the occasion we are giving an extra 10% commission to our contributors for any sales they make today.

So…photographer Phil Robinson of PjrFoto.com, aka Mr Ten Million, gets the glory:

(many congratulations Phil!)

…and all of you get the money! To increase your chances of a happy result we have emailed our customers and explained why today is a good day to buy pictures.

Next we will be concentrating on delivering the rest of what we promised – more growth, faster and better search results, and better tools for contributors - but first we have cake to eat and a homepage to smile at.

What I would really like to see is a proper left to right caption on both images please. ie names of your employees.

I always seem to deal with Arun at Members Service and would like to be able to put a name to a face.

    Many thanks.

    Best wishes Homer Sykes.

    Great job Alamy, from Portugal!

  54. 09 October 2007 at 03:56 Fred Frigidaire and his Cool Whips

There are ten million photos on Alamy
    That's a fact
    It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that only 0.0002% are mine

We are ten thousand contributors on the edge
    It’s a mess
Some might say it ain’t true
But they’re all keywording tonight along with you

I’m swarmed by the suppliers that upload everyday
    But I need to retire
Just find me a buyer, a nice one who’s ready to pay!

There are six billion people in the world
    More or less
And it makes me feel quite small
When some days none of them buy my pictures at all

    They have sly secret buyers
With secret Novel Uses in their sight
But you know I can’t retire
With so many secrets keeping me up at night

There are ten million photos on Alamy
    That's a fact
    It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that only 0.0002% are mine

  65. 09 October 2007 at 18:39 Derek vallintine

Well done Alamy from Vancouver Island.
As an additional bonus and thank you, how about paying the money from our account that is below $250. It is our money!!! With 10.6 million images I wonder how long it will be befor I see this(my) money. Come on Alamy..be generous.

  66. 09 October 2007 at 22:45 Steve davey

Got to say - this is NOTHING to be proud of. It is quality not quantity that should matter. When you have images like these in your collection (found in a very quick random search) you should be retrospective editing not partying! Sorry to be a party pooper, but that's just how I see it!

    A1C7B0
    AHBHH4
    ABJHJJ
    ACWJ68
    A4APA4
    A5WEW0
    A5Y1BF
    AKE723
    etc etc etc!

  67. 09 October 2007 at 23:37 Derek vallintine

Steve, if you look at my images hopofully you will agree that I have much better images than those that you mentioned ?????

  68. 10 October 2007 at 11:29 Steve Davey

    Hi Derek,
In my opinion, you have a great selection of tightly edited images. I would be happy to have taken any of them!

It is obvious that you have shown discipline and restraint when editing. Unfortunately over the years many others have not. AlamyRank is one way of addressing this, but is a somewhat flawed solution to a simple problem. A good number of millions of the images on Alamy do not belong on a professional site. They clutter it up, detering picture researchers and for that matter, increasing Alamy's carbon footprint!!

Imagine that say 25% of the pictures were culled. The collection would be better and a quarter of the servers could be switched off - representing a massive saving to the planet!

It is a shame that the collection is being marketed as a quantity not quality collection, and that this will never happen!

Alamy is a fantastic idea, allowing individual photographers to compete with the very biggest libraries. Unfortunately the very indiscipline of those photographers has swamped and corrupted it to some degree.

    Steve

  69. 10 October 2007 at 12:40 vipinkailas

Cheers, Cheers, Cheers Content UK and Content India; hats off

  70. 10 October 2007 at 12:54 Clive Rowley

Phew! None of my images are on Steve's list.

Am I the only photographer to check?

    All said with a wink.

  71. 10 October 2007 at 13:01 IanMurray

You can add some of mine to his list - including ones that have sold.

I don't like this idea of identifying individual images/photographers for criticism.

There's even some of Steve's that I don't much like but that is none of my business and I certainly wouldn't want to 'name and shame' him.

    Ian Murray

  72. 10 October 2007 at 14:05 lisa valder

Completely agree with Ian Murray, a little unprofessional.

  73. 10 October 2007 at 21:53 Steve davey

Feel free to point out any of my images that let the side down. There are some I am going to mark for deletion when I go through to re-keyword them under the new system. This is a professional library being judged by professional clients. Being judged is a part of selling pictures as a professional.

I am not talking about personal preference, or liking pictures, but those that are badly exposed, have colour casts or stuff that is cropped haphazardly off the edge of the frame. In short, old stuff that wouldn't get into the library under the current QC scheme.

  74. 11 October 2007 at 09:48 imagestopshop

it's always nice to see other photographers' work.

  75. 17 November 2007 at 11:17 big bull

    Hi alamy,

Congratulations.. !! all the best & Keep up the good work!

    Many thanks.

    Best wishes from big bull

  76. 27 January 2008 at 15:18 Ariadne van zandbergen

10M pictures is a wrong statement. Many images appear several times on Alamy. Several libraries upload the same images and there is nothing in place with Alamy to stop this. Some of my images appear up to 4 times on Alamy. By myself and other libraries. Some libraries have sub-licenced to other libraries that have uploaded the same images again. This is not a good situation for me or Alamy I would think. Something to look at!
