We’re pleased to announce that we’ve finished the roll-out of AlamyUpload. All contributors now have the option of uploading images to us through My Alamy. The system is coping well with a large volume of images and the number of discs we’re receiving has declined dramatically. This not only saves our postman’s back but also the environment!

If you haven’t already taken advantage of this facility, simply log into My Alamy and click upload images. You’ll find uploading far quicker than posting us discs.

A few points:

  1. If it’s your QC test submission, please try to upload all 4 images in the same upload session. This will ensure they are all contained within the same media reference and processed as a batch. Also remember to check our submission guidelines.
  2. It's up to you how many images you send per upload session (media reference). If you have more than one image to upload, then it's best to send them in a single upload session, if possible.
  3. For those of you who are currently unable to use AlamyUpload as your system does not meet our technical spec, you may continue to send us CDs or DVDs.
  4. The time taken for us to process images once they arrive with us, either on disc or via online upload remains the same. However rest assured we are continuing to look at ways of reducing the time it takes to process your images through our systems.

If that is a photo of the Alamy postman it might explain the delay with disks. He's from the 1980s and it looks like he's delivering them to the USA!! Grin.

Seriously though - well done in getting the upload rolled out!

Here, here, l am seriously impressed with Alamy upload, no more fiddling about burning CDs or wrapping things up like it’s Christmas.

Great, I see it as an option, along with Physical Submission [DVD or CD] to send images to our beloved photo agency.
Faster than snail mail, more reliable than some postal services, our image files will hop directly from our hard drive to Alamy's server.
I'm sure that many of you have already used the service, as I've been doing for the last 5 months.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, at the time of a new submission, almost 200 images, I decided to go back to Physical Submission for a number of reasons, but basically, for the unreliability and inconsistency of my Internet service.
I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and even if this is not a Third World country, on the contrary, some of the services, i.e. Internet Services, cannot be compared in terms of quality to the ones offered in the States or Europe. I'm not aware about other countries.
I personally experience connection interruption that do stop file uploading or other online tasks; sometimes I have to relocate my office to a local wi-fi Internet cafe', which is great for socializing , but not as good for hard working, and even there the connection is flickering.
Said so, since in the Physical Submission Received email I've got from Alamy I was notified not only that my DVD made it across the Ocean and the Equator safe and sound, but also that "We will shortly only be accepting online submissions.", I'm here to give a piece of advice to the Alamy guys for them to re-consider the above mentioned future action, at least from shipments coming from outside the Western World.
Good service also means options, and 2, Upload and Physical Submission, are certainly better than 1.
This is my one cent contribution.
Best to all, and great light
    Michele aka Michael

I'm with Michael on this one. Poor internet connections plague even those of us in the UK and fast broadband access is not universal. Please keep CD/DVD submission.
    thanks

I wish I could see AlamyUpload progress as percentage or at least whether or not its stalled on minimize bar when I minimize Window to do other work. That's how it was with FTP.

    Hi,

I also agree with Michael. I also live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and even though some of the services are very good they still have many problems regarding internet connection. You should consider leaving as many options as possible for the contributors to send their images allowing all sorts of photographers in all sorts of situations and countries to keep on working with you.

Michael, Argentina is a country that was considered 3rd world when that term used to be "in". Now, it still is a developing country. :-)

Like those above i suffer from poor internet connection making upload totally uneconomic for me.
